The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has expressed its objection regarding the further detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act of the convener of the Inter-University Student Council, Wasantha Mudali, and the Inter-University Bhikshu Council convener, Galvewa Siridhamma.

The Commission says that the arrest of the two under the Prevention of Terrorism Act is unjust and cannot be normalized at all.

In a statement issued by the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission, retired Supreme Court Judge Mrs. Rohini Marasinghe, it is stated that the Director and Deputy Director of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission went to check on the condition of Wasantha Mudali and Siridhamma Thero who are in custody.

They have observed that Siridhamma Thero is in poor health and needs to be hospitalized immediately.

Wasantha Mudalige and Siridhamma Thera, who are in detention, have been told by the director and deputy director of the Human Rights Commission that despite being arrested and kept in detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, they are not even interrogated except in a few cases.

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has announced that it will object to the extension of the detention orders imposed against the suspects as they can be dealt with under ordinary law.
