The Court of Appeal today ordered the acquittal of Saruwa Liyanage Sunil, the former Chairman of Akuressa Regional Council, who was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour.
He was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Colombo High Court on January 17, 2020 after being found guilty of raping a minor girl in 2012.
But the appeal court bench has given this decision today by announcing the decision of the appeal petition submitted by Saruwa Liyanage Sunil against it.
