Heavy rain is expected again today: A land slide warning has been issued for several areas, with the highest downpour expected in Jaffna.

According to the Department of Meteorology, there is a possibility of developing a turbulent nature in the South East Bay of Bengal sea area from May 6.

Accordingly, the Department of Meteorology is informed to pay attention to the future announcements issued in this regard.

The department also predicts that there may be scattered showers or thunderstorms in many parts of the island today (04) in the afternoon.

Many parts of the island are experiencing rain or thundershowers these days.

In the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall of 74.8 mm has been recorded in Thelippalai area of Jaffna.

The National Building Research Organization took action yesterday afternoon to issue first level landslide warnings to 5 Divisional Secretariat Divisions in 3 districts with the heavy rains.

These are Haldummulla and Passara in Badulla District, Kegalle in Kegalle District, Kotapola and Pasgoda in Matara District.

660 people belonging to 176 families in 8 districts have been affected by the rain, and 65 houses have been partially or fully damaged.
