Government Urged to Expedite Removal of Parate Law as Businesses Continue Auction Ads Despite Gazette Announcement, Sajith Urges Parliamentary Action

The government took a decision to amend the parate law on February 26, 2024, and although the relevant gazette was issued on March 13, due to the delay in submitting it to the parliament and getting approval, even today’s newspapers have implemented auctions under the parate law and this is an inefficiency of the government. There is a problem as to why this is not being implemented and if a cabinet decision has been taken regarding the parate law and a gazette has been issued, then opposition leader Sajith Premadasa requested in the parliament today that it should be presented to the parliament for approval as a matter of hadith.
