The letter signed and sent by Dr. Haritha Aluthge, Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association states as follows.
Information has been received from our branches operating in the Eastern Province about the Governor’s recent anti-cultural activities. This information is based on complaints received from various branches and individuals in the Eastern Province, especially from the administrative ranks. This behavior of the Governor has created a disgruntled and unpleasant atmosphere among all the medical staff in the Eastern Province. Ultimately, this can affect the quality of service.
The Eastern Province branch has indicated to the Government Medical Officers Association that the intervention of the executive committee of the union is necessary to resolve this dispute, and the branches have warned that the governor will engage in union activities if he continues to carry out such actions against his members. They informed that it will start by boycotting the meetings organized by the governor.
The Government Medical Officers Association has informed the Governor that after considering all the facts, its Executive Committee has unanimously decided to request a review of your conduct regarding Eastern Province doctors.
The Association of Government Medical Officers has also warned that if positive steps are not taken in this regard, they will have to show their support for the strict professional action taken by the Eastern Province branch against your future activities.
