Gampaha SJB MP Kavinda Jayawardena Faces Backlash Over Ties with Ranil Wickremesinghe
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Gampaha Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Kavinda Jayawardena is facing strong opposition from SJB constituency organizers in Gampaha after attending an event attended by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

In addition to this, MP Jayawardena also participated in a program held to commemorate Mr. Wickremesinghe’s birthday. Reports suggest that he has met with the former President on multiple occasions in the past and engaged in various discussions.

However, the Gampaha SJB constituency organizers, who raised concerns with the Opposition Leader last week, have strongly condemned MP Jayawardena’s actions, stating that such behavior is entirely unacceptable, especially at a time when an election has been announced.

Furthermore, they have urged the Opposition Leader to replace the Negombo constituency organizer, asserting that individuals who engage in dealings with Mr. Wickremesinghe should not hold such positions.

It has also been reported that the organizers questioned the necessity of MP Jayawardena’s attendance at the event, particularly since even prominent UNP leaders had refrained from participating.

As a result, they have called on Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa to take immediate action against MP Kavinda Jayawardena, either by removing him from his position now or, at the very least, after the election.
