Former Navy Commander, Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
According to reports, the arrest was made in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities involving the recruitment of Yoshitha Rajapaksa into the Sri Lanka Navy and related foreign training arrangements.
Investigators allege that Karannagoda is a suspect in a case where standard procedures were allegedly bypassed during the recruitment process and that public funds were misused in relation to overseas training.
He was taken into custody by Bribery Commission officials as part of the ongoing inquiry.
