GALLE – A former minister’s liaison officer was arrested today (4) in connection with the brutal triple murder that took place at a lodge in the Mahabodhiwatte area of Hiniduma, Galle.
The suspect is currently being interrogated by the police.
The tragic incident occurred on the night of January 30, around 11:15 p.m., when an unidentified gunman opened fire at the lodge. According to police reports, two men arrived on a motorcycle, and one of them used a T56 firearm to carry out the shooting before fleeing the scene.
At the time of the attack, five individuals were consuming alcohol at the lodge. Three of them were fatally shot, while the other two managed to escape.
The victims have been identified as Indunil Saman Kumara, 55, the owner of the lodge; M. Neville, a resident of Ambalangoda; and Chathuranga Kumara, 34, a resident of Hiniduma.
Police have confirmed that none of the deceased had any known connections to the underworld.
Investigations are ongoing.
