Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe today (27) ordered Former Minister of State A. H. Fauzi to be sentenced to 2 years hard labour and suspended for 10 years.Sri Lanka Latest News

This was after Mr. Fauzi pleaded guilty, and the court gave the order convicting him of the charge.

The judge has also ordered the defendant to pay a fine of 4 lakhs.

In 2010, when Mr A. H. M Fauzi was working as the Minister of Disaster Management, he used a luxury vehicle worth nearly 2 crore rupees from the Netherlands for his personal use for the disaster management activities of the Ministry, he persuaded the authorities including the Ministry Secretary and the Ministry of Finance about 10 lakh rupees for the maintenance of the vehicle. When calling today the case assigned by the Attorney General under 4 indictments such as spending money, Mr. A. H. M Fauzi pleaded guilty through his lawyer.

There, the judge pointed out that a senior politician with 62 years of political experience should not be taken for granted, but because he pleaded guilty to bribery in the first instance and he is now an elderly person of 86 years of age, he will be given a lenient sentence.

The judge also ordered to get the fingerprints of Mr. Fauzi.
