Former Defense Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne has addressed recent rumors suggesting that he has left the country, firmly denying these claims.
In a Facebook post, Gunaratne clarified that he has no plans to leave Sri Lanka. Below is the statement he shared:
“I wanted to clarify certain misinformation circulating on social media, implying that I went abroad after my retirement.
I strongly believe that I carried out my duties as Defense Secretary with the highest level of dedication. I take pride in having contributed to the peace and security of our beloved Sri Lanka, especially during the many challenges the country faced after the end of the 30-year civil war.
Since the change in government, I have not left the country and have no intention of doing so. After stepping down as Defense Secretary, I have been able to spend more time with my family and pursue my literary interests.
To those spreading false rumors, I want to make it clear that I will live and die in the same land where I was born, raised, and for which I fought. For anyone still doubting, you are welcome to meet me in person at the Colombo International Book Fair, taking place at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall today and tomorrow.”
Mr. Gunaratne’s statement firmly dismisses any speculation of him fleeing the country, reaffirming his commitment to Sri Lanka.
