Prof. Charitha Herath of the Opposition Parliament is in the final stages of preparing a research report on Sri Lanka’s fiscal and public debt management, which is expected to be released before the end of the year.
When asked about the relevant report by The Daily Morning Business, he stated that they were currently in the process of having the related documentation authenticated. “We have all of the documents now, and they are in good condition.” However, they must be authenticated before they can be published. We can’t say when it will be released, but it will be out before the end of the year.”
Following the resignation of all Opposition MPs from the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) set up to probe the country’s financial bankruptcy, Prof. Herath said in July that he would compile a research report on the country’s fiscal and debt management and that the relevant report would be released by the end of October.
All Opposition MPs resigned from the PSC to look into economic bankruptcy in the country claiming that the PSC was primarily composed of individuals who contributed to the country’s financial bankruptcy during the regime of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and opposing the controversial appointment of ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna General Secretary and Government MP Sagara Kariyawasam as its chairman.
Following the exodus of Opposition MPs, Prof. Herath, who entered Parliament from the National List of the SLPP and later joined the Opposition, said that he would research and publish a report detailing the factors that led to the economic downturn.
He also said that anyone willing to provide information to compile the report was welcome to do so.
