The Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, M.M.P.K. Mayadunne said even if 3 lakh government employees are fired, the work can be done easily without any problem!

The Secretary also emphasized that, until now, recruitments for the public service were made not when there were vacancies but through various policy decisions of the government.

Also, about twenty thousand government employees retire every year and a program to re-hire a similar number for government service has been in place for some time.

But under the current government, new recruitments to the public service have been limited through the program to reduce public expenditure.

According to that, even if about twenty thousand government employees retire in a year, such amount will not be recruited again for government service.

The secretary also says that through this program, the public service can be gradually reduced in the next few years.
