Electricity tariff new rates released

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has authorised the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to raise the average electricity bill by 75% across all categories.

According to the PUCSL, the electricity bill increase of 75% is the first since 2013.

PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake told the media today that the electricity bill increase will take effect tomorrow (10).

He went on to say that the CEB has been given permission to raise the electricity bill by 264 percent for customers whose usage is 0-30 units, with the maximum bill being Rs.198.

Janaka Ratnayake went on to say that bills for consumers with 31-60 units would be raised by 211 percent, up to a maximum of Rs. 599.

Customers with 61-90 units will see their electricity bills rise by 125 percent, while those with 91-120 units will see their bills rise by 89 percent.

According to the PUCSL Chairman, electricity bills for consumers with 121-180 units will be raised by 79%.
