The Election Commission has received a total of 801 complaints related to the upcoming local government elections as of last Monday, according to its Chairman, R.M.A. L. Ratnayake. He shared this information with Mawrata.

Of the total complaints received, 625 have already been resolved, while investigations are currently underway on the remaining 176 cases, Ratnayake stated.

He further noted that discussions have been held with the Inspector General of Police regarding security arrangements for the local government elections scheduled for next May. He assured that adequate security measures have been planned for each polling station.

To ensure a smooth election process, assistance from both the police and the Special Task Force has been secured. In addition, district officers responsible for security at the provincial level have been instructed to coordinate with the respective Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) in their regions.

Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manatunga stated that the exact number of police officers required for the election has not yet been determined.
