30 Shot Dead in Sri Lanka from January to April: Police Link Majority to Organized Crime

The Police Media Unit reports that 30 shooting incidents have occurred across the island between January 1 and April 6 this year, resulting in 30 fatalities.

According to police sources, 19 of the victims were killed in shootings linked to organized crime gangs, while the remaining 11 deaths were attributed to shootings arising from personal disputes.

In addition, during the same period, a total of 592 individuals lost their lives in 565 fatal road accidents.

As of March 28, road accidents have also left 1,262 people seriously injured and 2,145 with minor injuries. Police further stated that the number of cases involving property damage due to road accidents stands at 968.
