During Northern Visit, Sajith Premadasa Advocates for Political Solutions and Unified National Law, Envisions Jaffna as an Intellectual Hub

There are many challenges in Jaffna, where the people have endured the ravages of war. When peace is finally achieved, the country’s leaders should convene an international support conference. However, Sri Lanka has not yet organized such a conference, even though 15 years have passed since the end of the war in May 2009. The opposition leader highlighted that no support conferences have been held for the welfare of those living in the northern and eastern provinces, which were most affected by the conflict.

The opposition leader announced plans to initiate an international support conference for the welfare of the northern and eastern provinces, as well as the entire country, under a Samagi Jana Balawega government. He committed to fulfilling this duty within a year and a half of coming to power.

Opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa made this statement on June 9 during the donation of a friendly classroom valued at Rs. Here, he also made a financial donation of Rs.

Making Jaffna a Hub for Intellectuals

The opposition leader expressed his vision to transform the Jaffna district into a haven for intellectuals. He emphasized his commitment to improving education throughout the country, including positive changes in Jaffna’s educational landscape.

Advancing Sri Lankan Unity

He advocated for the advancement of Sri Lankan unity, beyond considerations of race, religion, party affiliation, caste, or social status. He stressed the importance of treating every child as the child of one nation and speaking the truth, regardless of whether they are Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, Burgher, or any other ethnicity.

Implementing the 13th Amendment

He criticized the lack of decisive leadership regarding the implementation of the 13th Amendment. He assured that under the Samagi Jana Balawega administration, civil and political rights, along with religious, cultural, economic, social, educational, and health rights, would be protected as fundamental rights.

Mr. Sajith Premadasa emphasized the need for a unified legal system, rejecting the idea of separate laws for different groups within the country.

Prioritizing Education and Technology

Addressing a school with 450 students but only three computers, he clarified that the purpose of donations was to spark interest in information technology among the students, not to garner votes. The goal, he stated, is to cultivate well-rounded citizens.

Supporting Healthcare and Education

Under the Samagi Jana Balawega’s initiatives, Rs. 1832 lakh worth of medicines and hospital equipment have been provided to 60 hospitals, and 87 buses worth Rs. 50 lakh have been distributed to 87 schools. Additionally, 227 schools have been equipped with improved classroom facilities under the IT program, with Rs. 2538 lakh allocated for this purpose.
