Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Namal Karunaratne, has acknowledged delays in transferring fertilizer subsidy funds to farmers’ accounts.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Ministry of Agriculture in Battaramulla on the 28th, the Deputy Minister stated that the underlying causes of the delay are being investigated, and measures are being implemented to resolve the issue. He assured that every farmer who has cultivated will receive the promised subsidy.
“This season, approximately 850,000 hectares have been cultivated, and each farmer will receive a fertilizer subsidy of Rs. 25,000 per hectare,” said Mr. Karunaratne. He further emphasized that over Rs. 20 billion has been allocated for this program, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting farmers.
