The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory stating that showers or thundershowers are expected at times today (31) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

In addition, moderately heavy showers exceeding 75 mm are likely to occur in certain areas within the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in the districts of Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara.

The Department further reports that several spells of showers are possible in the North-Central province and in the Mannar and Hambantota districts.

Meanwhile, strong winds reaching up to 50 kmph may occur at times in the western slopes of the Central Hills, and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

Other regions across the island are also expected to experience occasional gusts of wind reaching speeds of up to 50 kmph, with moderately strong winds ranging between 30 to 40 knots likely in some areas.

The Department of Meteorology advises the public to take appropriate precautions to minimize the risks associated with temporary strong winds and lightning, which may accompany thunderstorms.
