The National People’s Power has sent a letter to the Chairman of the Election Commission, requesting that a date be fixed as soon as possible for the holding of the local government elections.
It is stated in the relevant letter that the Supreme Court has ordered the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance to prevent the withholding of the money allocated for the local government elections in the budget passed for the year 2023.
According to that order, the Supreme Court, which is the highest court of Sri Lanka, has acted on the importance of holding local government elections, considering it as a basic human right, says the National People’s Force.
Therefore, according to the order of the Supreme Court, the National People’s Power has requested the Election Commission to make arrangements for the local government election as soon as possible.
