Former United People’s Freedom Alliance Member of Parliament Mr. Dayashrita Thisera met the opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa and joined the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Sandhayana to support his program. He was the son of a famous politician, Mr. Protus Thisera, and held several powerful cabinet and deputy minister positions in the governments that existed on several occasions.
From 1970 to 1977, he was the son of Mr. Protus Thisera, who was a member of parliament, a famous politician and the organizer of Nattandiya Constituency.
He joined the Podujana Peramuna in 1988 following his father’s footsteps after higher education and was elected to the North West Provincial Council. Then in the year 2000, he contested from the United Front and got a seat and was elected to the Parliament. Also, in 2004, he was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Ports and Aviation Services in the Government of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and in 2007 as the Non-Cabinet Minister of Skill Development and Vocational Training. After winning the 2010 election, he was elected as the Cabinet Minister of Public Resources and Enterprise Development. He has also worked as the Puttalam district organizer of Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
During his tenure as a minister, he was able to do a great job for the youth and the development of the North East.
