The Gampaha High Court has acquitted two key suspects who were arrested over the murder of former Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle.

Former SP of Gampaha Lakshman Cooray and former LTTE member Selvaraja Kirubakaran alias Morris have been acquitted by the court.

The two suspects were accused of murdering 16 people including former Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle on April 6, 2008, in a bomb attack near Weliveriya Kanti Stadium.

Lakshman Cooray who served as the Gampaha Superintendent of Police at the time was arrested on August 12, 2009, accusing him of having a direct relationship with these bombings.

However, Gampaha No. 01 High Court Judge Sahan Mapa Bandara acquitted the two suspects when the murder case was taken up for hearing today.
