Trading at the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) was temporarily suspended for 15 minutes this morning following a sharp decline in all major price indices shortly after the market opened.
Within the first hour of trading, the All Share Price Index (ASPI) dropped by 629 points, reaching 14,743 points. Simultaneously, the S&P SL20 Index fell by 223 points, settling at 4,309 points.
The temporary suspension was implemented as a standard market safeguard in response to the rapid decline.
