Beijing, January 16 – Chinese Premier Li Keqiang reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s efforts to achieve a “prosperous country – a beautiful life” for its people during a meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Beijing this afternoon.

Welcoming President Dissanayake warmly, Premier Li emphasized China’s readiness to extend maximum support for Sri Lanka’s economic development and praised the current government’s dedication to creating a corruption-free nation.

In his address, President Dissanayake highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between Sri Lanka and China, tracing it back to the time of the Buddhist monk Fa Hian. He also urged the Chinese Premier to support the government’s initiatives to eradicate poverty and accelerate the digitalization of Sri Lanka.

The President expressed his gratitude for the assistance China has already provided, acknowledging the significant contributions of the Chinese government and people to Sri Lanka’s development.

During the meeting, both countries engaged in extensive discussions on fostering long-term friendship and enhancing bilateral investment. Key areas of focus included cultural exchanges, trade, and political cooperation, which received special attention as avenues to deepen ties.

The high-level meeting was attended by Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath; Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation Bimal Ratnayake; Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong; Sri Lankan Ambassador to China Majintha Jayasinghe; and several senior Chinese diplomats.
