It is reported that Mr Noel Priyantha, media spokesperson of Ceylon Electricity Board, has resigned from that position. Sri Lanka Latest News

A statement made by Mr. Noel recently created a great controversy in the society and he later issued a statement expressing his regret.

Power and Energy Minister Mr Kanchana Wijesekera announced the resignation of Mr Noel Priyantha in an X message.

This controversial situation arose over his statement that bottle lamp light is sufficient for children to study.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena emphasized in Parliament today that he will look into the statement of the media spokesman of the Electricity Board and take disciplinary action.

He also emphasized that the government will not harm or insult the actions taken by all the plantation workers’ leaders for the betterment of the plantation workers.

The Prime Minister who said that disciplinary action will be taken against the officer based on the truth and falsity of the statement made, also expressed his thanks to the opposition leader for raising this issue.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, who further commented,

“Dear Speaker, we have already instructed to take necessary disciplinary measures based on the truth and falsity of the official’s statement regarding the issue raised by the leader of the opposition party. I thank the Leader of the Opposition for raising this. Also, Radhakrishnan Estates Labor Leader is here, Hon. There are Mr. and Mrs. Thondaman. The government does not expect any harm or insult to the action taken by all of us for the betterment of the plantation workers.
