The third service extension given to Inspector General of Police Chandana Wickramaratne will end today.
But internal sources state that no one’s name has been submitted to the Legislative Assembly for the post of Inspector General of Police.
Generally, three names should be proposed for the post, but it is reported that the names of any senior DIG have not been submitted.
However, when the third service extension was given to Chandana Wickramaratne, the Legislative Assembly had taken steps to reject it.
The Constituent Assembly had previously unanimously informed the President that it would be good if Mr. Wickramaratne’s name was not recommended again for the post of Inspector General.
The first and second service extensions given to him were three months each and the last service extension was limited to three weeks.
However, if an Inspector General of Police is not appointed today, Sri Lanka will be without an Inspector General of Police for the second time tomorrow.
