The president said that making wrong economic decisions will lead to further devaluation of the rupiah and emphasized that he is not ready to darken the future of the country by taking popular decisions like some say.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe said this while addressing the “Shilpa Abhimani 2023” Presidential Handicraft Awards ceremony held today (3) at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Center in Colombo.
The President said that he will continue to provide all possible relief to the people in the face of hardships and said that the government will provide all necessary support to turn the handicraft industry into a foreign exchange earning sector.
Intending to preserve and promote handicrafts of traditional and cultural value, social appreciation and economic empowerment of handicraftsmen, the National Crafts Council organizes the annual “Shilpa Abhimani” National Handicrafts Competition and Exhibition.
This year, the “Shilpa Abhimani” 2023 National Handicraft Competition was held under the guidance of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Division and the Ministry of Industries.
This competition was organized by representing 66 sub-fields under 31 basic handicraft fields and the designs received were selected by a qualified jury consisting of university professors. These winners were honored with gold and Rajata awards as well as merit awards and cash prizes for the first, second and third places.
