Bimal stated in Parliament that the Cardinal had requested the appointment of Shani Abeysekara and Ravi Seneviratne to those positions. However, Father Cyril Gamini, speaking on behalf of the Catholic Church, has now said that no such request was made. So, was Bimal’s statement in Parliament a lie?

Father Cyril Gamini stated that His Eminence the Cardinal has not made any request to the government regarding the appointment of former officers Shani Abeysekara or Ravi Seneviratne to any official positions.

This clarification was made during a special media statement delivered by the Cardinal earlier today.
