Dr. Jude Jayamaha, an expert on viral diseases of the Colombo Medical Research Institute, has informed the public to follow health safety measures as the influenza disease has started to spread rapidly these days.
The expert states that a significant number of sputum samples received by the Medical Research Institute have been confirmed to be infected with the influenza virus.
He pointed out that the increase in gatherings of people with the coming festival season as well as the rain and cold weather in the months of November-December are another reason for the spread of influenza.
Specialist Dr. Jude Jayamaha emphasizes that especially if this virus infects pregnant mothers, various complications can arise for both the mother and the baby.
However, the disease can be prevented by following methods such as wearing face masks, restricting movement and washing hands frequently with soap.
