A letter has been forwarded by The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) to the Speaker of the Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena mapping their apprehension concerning the ‘growing trend of judicial matters being deliberated and references being made to Judges in Parliament’ as mentioned in the said letter.
The related letter was handed during a constructive exchange of views that has taken place between the BASL management committee and Speaker Abeywardena where the BASL voiced its consternation on the subject of possible consequences of parliamentary proceedings on present legal matters and comments made in opposition to Court Personnel.
In a media statement issued today (12), the BASL highlighted the ‘need to preserve the sanctity of judicial proceedings and ensure that due process is upheld without any undue influence’ which was also brought out at the meeting held.
