Baddegama Pradeshiya Sabha Vice Chairman Saman C. Liyanage has been admitted to hospital following a thug attack, according to reports.
The incident occurred yesterday (24) afternoon when an individual carried out the assault. Liyanage was traveling home with his wife when a group of men blocked the road in the Godakanda area of Baddegama and attacked him.
The Vice Chairman is currently receiving treatment at the Galle National Hospital and has lodged a complaint with the Poddala Police regarding the incident.
Police suspect that the attack may have been orchestrated by a candidate contesting for the Baddegama Pradeshiya Sabha.
The Poddala Police have commenced further investigations into the matter.
