A stockpile of goods previously seized by the Sri Lanka Army for investigative purposes was officially handed over to the government today (May 2) at the Army Headquarters, following the conclusion of relevant investigations.

The items, which include gold, silver, and various gemstones—primarily in the form of jewellery—were initially confiscated from the possession and bank vaults of the LTTE organization in the aftermath of the war. These valuables had been retained by the Army for investigation purposes.

In accordance with this handover, a total of 120 parcels containing jewellery were formally transferred to the Sri Lanka Police today.

As per the instructions of the Attorney General, these parcels are set to be handed over to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, after undergoing inspection by the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Authority under police protection.

Present at the event were Major General Deeptha Ariyasinghe, Director General of Sri Lanka Army Intelligence; Acting Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasuriya; and Chairman of the Gem and Jewellery Authority, Naveen Suryarachchi.

The Gem and Jewellery Authority will assess the gold items to determine and announce their official value and weight to the media.

Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya also stated that measures will be taken to return the gold to its rightful owners, once their identities have been verified.
