President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized that relief efforts for affected communities can be delivered more effectively and efficiently through strong coordination among all stakeholders. Sri Lanka Latest News
The President made these remarks during a meeting held last night (29) with representatives of non-governmental organizations at the Tri-Forces Security Headquarters.
Expressing his gratitude to all those who have stood by the people during this challenging period, President Dissanayake urged everyone to work together under a national program and to commit, in accordance with their conscience, to achieving the intended objectives.
He also noted that rescue and relief operations have been conducted without discrimination, ensuring that necessary facilities are provided to all affected individuals while recognizing the value of their lives. The President further stated that this difficult period has created an example for fostering national unity and reconciliation.
The government, with the continuous support of the Tri-Forces, has implemented rescue operations for those affected. The President stressed that the provision of essential facilities for displaced persons, the restoration of public life, and the development of selected infrastructure must be carried out with the support of all stakeholders. He added that these efforts are expected to be advanced under a national program through strong coordination.
During the meeting, representatives from various organizations shared their views on the relief programs planned by their institutions and expressed their gratitude to the President for inviting them, acknowledging his appreciation of their contributions.
They also highlighted the potential to utilize not only the financial assistance of NGOs but also their experience and expertise in such national emergencies. Representatives expressed confidence that, despite the economic difficulties faced by the country, Sri Lanka can confront this challenge with strength due to the nation’s ethical awakening.
Furthermore, they stated that the current fraud- and corruption-free approach of the government has given them the confidence to work closely with state institutions.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath; Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Upali Pannilage; Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake; Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma; Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, Retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuiyakontha; along with the Commanders of the Tri-Forces, the Inspector General of Police, and representatives of local and international NGOs.
