The Jaffna Police have started investigations yesterday (26) regarding the discovery of the dead body of a 17-year-old girl who was given to work in a house for a monthly salary of twenty-five thousand rupees. (Sri Lanka Latest News)
A 17-year-old girl named Ketiswaran Dharmika, who lived in a house at Vadukkodei Mudaliar Kovil Adi area in Jaffna, has been sent to work in a house in Jaffna by her mother because she does not have the financial strength to engage in educational activities.
The owner of the house has given her only 5000 rupees per month despite promising to give her a monthly salary of 25000 rupees. The employer, who forbade the mother to visit the child, has given the mother only three minutes a month to talk on the phone.
After about four months, the employer, who did not even allow us to talk on the phone, did not pay the wages as scheduled. After the girl’s mother received a message that she was dead, the girl’s mother told the Jaffna police that she has a lot of doubts about the death.
Mr. Premakumar Namasivayam, the forensic medical officer of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital who conducted the post-mortem examination regarding the death, has given an open verdict regarding the death and has sent the body parts of the deceased to the Government Coroner for further examination.
