Yesterday evening (02), Mr. Chandana Udayanga (38), an assistant manager of a courier service company in Matara city, picked up an amount of 50 lakh rupees that had fallen on the ground near the parking lot of the Bank of Ceylon Matara high-grade branch and handed it back to the bank. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

It is suspected that 50 lakhs of cash taken by the bank’s employees to the ATMs or to be deposited in the central bank may have fallen on the ground.

Mr. Chandana Udayanga, who has done this act, is a resident of the Ahangama area.

After taking a photo of the pile of 50 lakh currency notes that had fallen on the ground, he later informed a security officer about it called a bank officer and handed it over to them.

Later, when he was in the queue to deposit money in the bank for the purpose he came for, he told the incident to Mr. Anil Sudusinghe, the owner of a car dealership in Matara Kamburugamuwa, who saw the incident from a distance.

As businessman Mr. Anil Sudusinghe is an acquaintance of the bank’s manager, he invited Mr. Chandana Udayanga and went to meet the manager.

At that time, the bank manager noted down the name, village, etc. of Mr. Chandana Udayanga, who did the same, and thanked him for doing such an act.

As such people are rare in society, Mr. Anil Sudusinghe, a businessman, has also decided to write a request to the bank manager to evaluate him.

Mr. Chandana Udayanga said:

“I came to the bank to deposit money. As soon as I stopped the bike, I got a phone call. The bank where I was responding to the call saw a bundle of money lying near the bank’s garden. At the same time, I took a photo of it with my mobile phone. It’s for my safety. Later, a security officer was called from a distance and brought. Then it was handed over to a bank official. When I went to the queue for my business, a businessman who was nearby asked what happened. When I told the incident, he took me to the manager. Later, the manager thanked me. I work as an assistant manager in Pronto Courier. Because of the good deed I did, the businessman even took a photo of me.
