The magnitude of this earthquake, which occurred at a distance of 1260 km from Colombo, was recorded as 5.8 on the Richter scale.
It is reported that the shock caused by this has been slightly felt in Kalutara, Bambalapitiya and Colombo areas.
However, the Bureau of Geology and Mines has stated that there is no tsunami risk.
