Puttalam District Member of Parliament Mr. Ali Sabri Rahim left for Dubai on the night of the 25th yesterday for a visit, according to Katunayake airport sources.
Sources at the airport say that he was arrested on the 23rd and fined 75 lakhs when he arrived at Katunayake airport from Dubai illegally carrying gold articles worth seven and a half crores and a mobile phone.
An official at the Katunayake airport said that the Member of Parliament left for Dubai yesterday at around 8:50 pm on a plane owned by Fly Dubai Airlines.
The gold and mobile phones brought by the MP were confiscated by the customs officials.
