The Cabinet has approved the introduction of several amendments to the Penal Code, including making it a criminal act to abuse boys. Sri Lanka Latest News

It is said that approval was given in the cabinet meeting held on January 24th to amend the laws on rape as mentioned in the Penal Code and to correct the deficiencies in the law related to the abuse of women.

On 18.01.2021 and 2021.06.28 the minister introduce amendments to the Penal Code to amend the laws on statutory rape mentioned in the Penal Code, to correct the existing loopholes in the law related to rape and to criminalize the rape of boys it has been approved by the board,” said the announcement issued by the Government Information Department.

It is reported that the Attorney General’s clearance has been received for the bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman Department.

The cabinet has thus given its approval to the proposal submitted by Justice Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksa to publish the approved bills in the Government Gazette and then submit them to Parliament for approval.
