Minuwangoda Police said that a person who broke into a two-storey house in Kotuguda with the intention of stealing gold ornaments stabbed a director of the transport department of SriLankan Airlines who was residing in the house.
61-year-old Mr. K. Anura Indrakumara Fernando has died.
Mr. Anura is a father of three daughters.
Police say that on the day of this incident, Mr. Anura’s wife and three daughters had gone to the pooja being held in the church and only the housekeeper and Mr. Anura were at home.
The police say that some person sneaked into the upper floor, tied up the maid, stole the gold necklace and the pair of gold earrings she was wearing and came downstairs.
According to the police, the man stabbed Mr. Anura who was watching television downstairs and seriously injured him and stole the three pound gold necklace he was wearing, the gold bracelet he was wearing and three gold rings on a table and fled.
This information was revealed to the police by the housekeeper who was in Mr. Anura’s house.
