Sri Lanka Customs has issued an immediate warning to travelers not to bring in prohibited or restricted commodities.

The notice applies to any prohibited and restricted commodities, temporarily suspended commodities, or commercial quantities of commodities found in accompanied and unaccompanied baggage passing through the airport or unaccompanied passenger baggage (UPB) warehouses.

P. According to B. S. C. Nonis, there has been an increase in the bringing in of restricted commodities such as gold, cigarettes, medicines, ornamental plants, and other commodities whose importation has been temporarily halted by passengers and UPB.

Nonis also stated that some travellers are bringing in commercial quantities of commodities in violation of Customs Ordinance and Imports and Exports (Control) Act regulations.

“Failure to comply with these instructions will result in the forfeiture of all commodities brought in, as well as the imposition of further forfeitures or penalties in accordance with the provisions of the Customs Ordinance and the Imports and Exports (Control) Act,” he warned.
