94 New MPs Apply for Housing at Madiwela Complex as Parliament Prepares for Allocations
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A senior parliamentary official disclosed that as of yesterday evening (28), 94 newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) have submitted applications to secure housing at the Madiwela MP Housing Complex.

The complex comprises 120 houses, of which 112 are designated for use by MPs. The remaining units have been long reserved for employees serving within the housing complex.

It has been planned to allocate these residences to MPs who have submitted applications within the first three days of Parliament’s commencement. However, some units are currently undergoing renovations, while a group of returning MPs from the previous Parliament continues to occupy certain houses. These MPs will also be required to reapply for housing.

Among those who have applied, a significant number represent the National People’s Power party.

Key criteria for allocating housing include the MPs’ or their spouses’ lack of alternative official residences and their residence being located more than 40 kilometers from Colombo. MPs meeting these conditions are eligible to apply for the official accommodations.
