Eight shooting incidents have been reported across the island so far this year, resulting in five fatalities, according to the police. Additionally, five more individuals have been injured and are currently receiving treatment in hospitals.

The most recent incident occurred yesterday afternoon (19) in Mount Lavinia, where a 24-year-old man was shot and killed. The attack was carried out by two individuals on a motorcycle near a restaurant on Siripala Mawatha, Mount Lavinia.

The Dehiwala Police managed to arrest one of the suspects along with the firearm used in the attack. However, the other suspect fled the scene with the motorcycle. The deceased, identified as Savidu Tharusha, was a 24-year-old resident of the Badowita area. Police reports indicate that Tharusha was a close associate of a known criminal gang member, “Kos Malli,” who is believed to be hiding in Dubai. Authorities suspect that the shooting was orchestrated by another gang leader, Badowita Asanka.

Arrests Made in Mannar Shooting Case

Meanwhile, significant progress has been made in the investigation into the recent shooting in front of the Mannar Magistrate’s Court complex. Police have arrested three suspects, including a serving member of the army and an ex-army personnel, in connection with the incident. The arrests were made in Mannar and Colombo.

Among the arrested individuals is the alleged shooter responsible for the attack. Police revealed that efforts are underway to apprehend three additional suspects involved in the case.

The Mannar shooting, which occurred last Thursday, left two people dead, including a woman, and injured two others, also including a woman. The attack was executed by two unidentified individuals who arrived on a motorcycle and fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Ongoing Investigations

Police investigations into these incidents are ongoing as authorities work to address the rise in violent crimes across the island. Further updates are expected as the cases progress.
