Deception Unveiled: Ranil’s Hidden Face of Politics

Games re commenced

Inside politics column ended last week’s release with the disclosure of about two UNP devils manipulated attempts to destroy the unity efforts of UNP and SJB that took shape during Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe’s remand and hospitalization period.

Knowing the sinister efforts ‘inside politics’ column, even wish the parties unite under a new leadership.

Inside Politics column stands with its practice of reporting the truth based on evidence, which may disturb some based on their political knowledge. We do report behind the scenes, capturing the happening as it unfolds.

Lankadeepa and Sunday Times, owned by Ranil’s uncle and cousin within 24 hours of our reporting went into action by publishing derogatory stories of the SJB leader to disrupt the impending unity between the parties.

These disruptive forces were even active while the former president was in the hospital, creating efforts to force SJB MPs to cross over to UNP and others to fall out with SJB leadership.

Ranil’s Incurable Political Disease

Ranil Wickremesinghe’s lawyers may have listed his physical illnesses before the court, but Sri Lanka knows his real sickness is political—a disease that has poisoned our democracy for decades. His politics has never been about the people. It has always been about lies, manipulation, and media games.

From the day he entered politics, Ranil’s survival tactic was to weaponise his cousin Wijewardena’s newspaper empire, the Lankadeepa group. Whenever the UNP rebelled against his failed leadership, Ranil’s media machine went to work—fabricating stories, spreading slander, and crushing dissent with headlines. He trusted the printing press more than the people.

The result? The once-mighty UNP, the party that freed the nation, built leaders, and drove development, collapsed into rubble under Ranil’s watch. From a five-sixths majority in parliament, he dragged it down to zero seats. That is not leadership—it is political vandalism.

Treachery in the Hospital

Even in prison and hospital, Ranil could not put away his dirty tricks. While Sajith Premadasa showed humanity—visiting him daily, fighting for his release, and setting aside past betrayals—Ranil repaid it with conspiracy.

On Sajith’s last visit, Ranil smirked and warned:
“Be careful, Sajith. They’re coming for you too… Better get a legal team ready.”

Beside him, Akila Viraj played innocent. But Sajith saw through it instantly—another trap being laid. And right on cue, hours after Ranil’s release, a pro-Ranil website ran the story: “Bribery Commission starts chasing Sajith.”

The allegation? The same stale, recycled smear that was thrown during last year’s presidential election and long dismissed as political mudslinging. Yet Ranil’s network dusted it off and fired again—proving once more that lies are his only currency.

A Sickness That Destroyed a Party

Ranil’s illness is not in his body—it is in his politics. For over 30 years, he infected the UNP with deception, manipulation, and betrayal until the proud party of independence was reduced to ashes. And even today, instead of facing the truth, he clings to the same toxic games.

Ranil Wickremesinghe is not just a sick man. He is a politically diseased man. And that disease has destroyed his party, corroded public trust, and continues to spread in our democracy.

Ruwan’s Mask

Sunday times did not stop publishing this story. Ruwan Wijewardena published another stinker on its front page against Sajith and SJB, thus exposing his dual face. Deputy leader of UNP followed the footsteps of the leader Ranil.  This has been Ruwan’s practice for some time, which this column previously highlighted a series of discussions held at his Hyde park residence to break the SJB and ensure Sajith’s defeat.

However, after Ranil was arrested and remanded, it was this same Ruwan who came to meet Sajith under a pretense to save Ranil and begged for help. Despite this, last Monday, a front-page story in Ruwan Wijewardene’s Lankadeepa reported that ‘an opposition stalwart will be arrested soon’.

A Photo

First, a news item published against Sajith on another website was false and incorrect, and it was stated that an opposition figure was to be arrested based on a complaint received that workers from the Engineering Corporation had been used to repair Sirikotha, and that the Bribery Commission had already obtained a statement from former General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

Initially, it was reported on the websites that Sajith was going to be questioned, but since it was incorrect, Ruwan’s newspapers published various types of news items claiming that an opposition figure was to be arrested, with the ulterior motive of intimidating Sajith, embarrassing Sajith, and disrupting the emerging SJB-UNP unity.

Sunday Times fake news

Ranil planned to celebrate the UNP anniversary on a grand scale from his home. He planned to invite a large number of opposition leaders, including Sajith and other SJB members that to gather some large participants to the party conference.

Ruwan’s Sunday Times newspaper published a front-page story on this on Sunday. News said the grand UNP convention would be held, and high-level invitees include Sajith will participate.

The paper further said SJB’s general secretary’s confirmation was received about his attendance. A few minutes after this, UNP-friendly website reported Ranil’s intention of lifting the ban imposed upon Sajith and other SJB members. Ranil intended by this news to use SJB MPs to influence Sajth to attend the UNP convention and to have a great show in Sirikotha with their participation.

Lie exposed

Fake news got exposed within a few minutes. Ranil’s plans were thwarted with the confirmation of the false nature of the news. When SJB MPs start to check with the General Secretary, he stated to all of them that there is no truth in this news. Ranjith Maddumabandara denied giving any media statement and receipt of the invitation from UNP.

SJB MPs called a media briefing and informed the country of the false news. MP Nalin Bandara, addressing the briefing, reiterated that SJB is the largest party with the largest voters in the opposition, and anyone who wants to join could do so if they so desire.

 Sirasa fooled?

Another false news was also planted on the Sirasa Instagram social network last week. It stated that Sajith had been summoned by the Bribery Commission to obtain a statement following a complaint received regarding the renovation of the Sirikotha party headquarters at government expense.

It was clear that Ranil’s News Plant media group had started playing games with Sirasa media, in a context where Sajith had not received any such summons.

Most likely, this group had used Sirasa media for this purpose previously. It was revealed that Harini had come to the hospital in the middle of the night using Hiru channel and had made a fool of themselves in the country.

It was possible to see through this that Sirasa had also been caught by Ranil’s media group’s plants, whether knowingly or unknowingly.

After this incident, Harshana Rajakaruna also confirmed this by holding a media conference. When the media asked about the allegations made against Sajith by the media, Harshana clearly stated that Sajith had not received any such summons or allegations from the Bribery Commission, and that all these were just news stories published in the media.

We made an extraordinary disclosure on the ‘Mawrata News’ website last Tuesday regarding the media operation of planting false news by certain groups through various websites, newspapers owned by Ruwan Wijewardene, and Sirasa social media networks since Ranil was discharged from the hospital.

We mentioned in that news a clear description of the media operations carried out by Ranil during the 4 days from Saturday to Tuesday. The news we published last Tuesday is published below.

Mawrata News Disclosure

Although members of both parties hope that the two parties will unite after the sincere efforts made by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and its leader and opposition leader Sajith Premadasa to free former President Ranil Wickremesinghe when he was arrested, it is reported that the UNP leadership is currently working to disrupt that unity as usual.

Since the day Ranil Wickremesinghe was released on bail, certain groups have been playing political games by using the newspaper network owned by Wickremesinghe’s cousin, Ruwan Wijewardene, to divide the SJB and embarrass the SJB leadership.

Accordingly, on the same day that Ranil Wickremesinghe was granted bail, someone had filed a complaint with the Bribery Commission targeting Sajith Premadasa, stating that while Premadasa was serving as a minister in the Good Governance Government, public property had been misused by employing employees of the Engineering Corporation for official purposes at the business premises of his wife, Jalani Premadasa, and that an immediate investigation should be conducted into the matter, as it is similar to the allegation leveled against Wickremesinghe.

The SJB MPs think that this allegation was made to the Bribery Commission by Ranil Wickremesinghe’s own side in October to embarrass and defeat Sajith Premadasa, and that it has once again been made to the Bribery Commission by Wickremesinghe’s side to embarrass the Leader of the Opposition by presenting it as a new complaint.

Meanwhile, a weekend English newspaper owned by Wickremesinghe’s brother-in-law, Ruwan Wijewardene, had reported another front-page story this week, stating that party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had taken steps to send invitations to all opposition parties, including the UNP, for the UNP anniversary to be held on the 6th.

The story also stated that when SJP General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara was asked, he confirmed to the newspaper that he had received the invitation.

The information we have here indicates that, until today, no official invitation has been received from the UNP to the SJB leaders or the party’s General Secretary to attend the UNP convention. Accordingly, the SJB MPs are of the opinion that the real purpose of this could be to create false news that the SJB leaders will also attend the UNP convention out of fear that party members will not attend it and to bring party members to it.

The SJB MPs are also of the opinion that Mr. Wickremesinghe is using the newspapers owned by his cousin, Mr. Ruwan Wijewardene, to publish false news in order to attack Mr. Sajith Premadasa once again and divide the SJB.

In addition, last Monday, another news item was ‘planted’ in a Sinhala newspaper owned by Mr. Ruwan Wijewardene’s newspaper company, stating that a strongman of the opposition is to be arrested. It was also stated that the arrest was to be made based on an alleged irregularity at the Engineering Corporation.

However, our investigations confirmed that the news was also completely false.

The most ridiculous thing about this is that the people who are ‘planting’ false news in this newspaper in the interests of Mr. Wickremesinghe’s party have, in turn, made repeated phone calls to the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Sajith Premadasa.

It is also learned that Mr. Sajith Premadasa’s party has now identified who is publishing such false news and who the groups are behind it.

However, while Ranil Wickremesinghe was in custody and hospitalized, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa visited the prison and hospital almost every morning and evening to check on Mr. Wickremesinghe’s well-being. It is now a well-known fact that Mr. Wickremesinghe played a major role behind the scenes in defeating Mr. Premadasa in both the previous presidential elections. During the previous presidential election, Mr. Wickremesinghe said on a public platform that Sajith could not dethrone Anura and that Anura would win.

It is also a well-known fact that the Sinhala and English newspapers owned by Mr. Wickremesinghe’s family were used extensively to defeat Mr. Sajith Premadasa.

Accordingly, through the events of the past few days, we have once again seen that Mr. Wickremesinghe and a few people close to him are shamelessly using newspapers owned by Mr. Ruwan Wijewardene and several websites that support him to embarrass Mr. Sajith Premadasa and divide the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.

Anniversary Cancelled

A few hours after we made this revelation, another surprising news emerged from the UNP. That was the sudden cancellation of the UNP anniversary, which was planned to be held on Saturday (06) with a big show by bringing opposition party leaders, SJB and Sajith, to Sirikotha.

The main reason for this was that all the false propaganda by Ranil to bring down Sajith had turned out to be a lie. Through this, the UNP strongmen had been assured that Sajith would not fall and that SJB would not break into two. To erase this embarrassment, the UNP had later publicised that Ranil’s illness had not yet recovered and that Ranil’s wife, Maithri Wickremesinghe, was pressuring him to take a break.

Sajith Arrested? Ranil’s Media Trap Backfires

By last Wednesday, UNP-friendly websites were buzzing with yet another shocking claim. What began in Ruwan’s family-owned papers as a simple story about Sajith being “questioned” suddenly escalated online into headlines suggesting he was about to be arrested. But by Friday it was clear — the whole story was nothing but a manufactured lie.

Why was such a two-pronged media drama unleashed? The answer is simple: Ranil’s camp wanted to smear Sajith, intimidate the SJB, and pressure them into attending the UNP convention. Instead, the result was disastrous. The fragile UNP–SJB goodwill collapsed, fresh doubts were raised about Ranil’s political credibility, and the UNP anniversary itself turned into a national joke. Ranil’s lie, along with the scheming of his media mercenaries, was laid bare.

The ‘inside politics’ prediction is this: Ranil, surrounded only by a handful of loyal henchmen and his notorious “news-planting gang,” has once again sabotaged the very UNP-SJB alliance that could have given his party new life. And this time, he cannot escape the curse of loyal UNP supporters who are weary of defeat and betrayal.

The irony is almost comical. While orchestrating smear campaigns against Sajith in the shadows, Ranil still wants to talk to him. Through intermediaries like his personal secretary Sandra Perera — and even members of the very gang spreading false stories — repeated calls were made to Sajith, carrying messages from Ranil. But Sajith, fully aware of the backroom games, refused to bite. He ignored the calls, dismissed the messengers, and left Ranil’s drama exposed for what it was: a desperate act of political theatre.

The latest game

Realising the news plant game’s failure Ranil and his gang turned towards Sirasa , to save themselves, blamed Sirasa and got away. In a website they published on Friday, ‘News First jumps the fence before everyone else to take opposition leader Sajith to the CID.

The Government in Crisis

Amidst all the unfolding drama, one fact is becoming increasingly clear—the government itself is sinking into deep crises, hidden from the public eye. Strikingly, the country’s leadership has neither spoken out nor taken concrete steps to address these challenges. Instead, they seem intent on distracting the public with sensational headlines, while burying the real problems under the carpet.

That is why the news cycle is now dominated by the sensational return of five underworld figures from Indonesia, and the parade of former MPs and ministers trooping into the CID, courts, and the Bribery Commission. These may create noise, but they are not the real crisis.

The real storm lies elsewhere. Chief among them is the looming resolution against Sri Lanka at the Geneva Human Rights Session opening this month. As we have repeatedly revealed in the Inside Politics column, a strong resolution targeting Sri Lanka is expected—and this time, it is very likely to pass.

Following our disclosures, it was announced that Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath would represent Sri Lanka in Geneva. But serious doubts remain over whether Vijitha truly grasps the depth of the Geneva challenge. His lack of coordination with the Sri Lankan mission in Geneva over the past several months is alarming. Even the promises he made at the last session remain unfulfilled. This failure has now snowballed into a serious diplomatic crisis—one that the government seems desperate to avoid confronting.

Diaspora is strong

Many political analysts are expressing their opinions and saying that the resolution against Sri Lanka is more likely to be passed this time due to the strong Tamil diaspora in European countries. This Tamil diaspora is so strong that the President did not even get a chance to meet the Chancellor of that country during his visit to Germany a few months ago. Since the Tamil diaspora in Germany is a very influential group in the country’s politics, many are of the opinion that the German Chancellor did not meet Anura due to their influence. Accordingly, if the resolution against Sri Lanka is passed, it is believed by many to have a negative impact on the GSP Plus concession provided to Sri Lanka by the European Commission. If that happens, it is needless to say that there is a risk of another serious attack on the country’s economy.

Shanghai denied?

Government is facing a crisis in their fragile foreign policy. In particular, due to the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump targeting all countries in the world, a powerful power base is being formed against the United States, led by China.

Last week, the Shanghai Summit was held in China, and even Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in it. China and India, traditional enemies, are gathering in one camp and sharpening their weapons in a trade war against the United States. It is likely that Brazil, another powerful country against the United States, will also join this camp in the near future.

No Invitation for the Left-Leaning NPP

The international community widely perceives Sri Lanka’s current administration as left-leaning. In fact, apart from China, the Compass government stands as the only other left-leaning administration in the region. Yet, Sri Lanka’s absence from the Shanghai Summit, spearheaded by China, has raised eyebrows.

Our inquiries confirmed that China did not extend an invitation to Sri Lanka—despite inviting other Asian nations such as Pakistan, India, the Maldives, and Nepal. The question remains: why was Sri Lanka deliberately left out? Clearly, there is more to this than meets the eye.

Interestingly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had even sought clarification from the Sri Lankan Embassy in Beijing about this omission. The embassy responded that the decision was entirely China’s. According to them, China typically hosts a head of state only once a year. Since the President already visited China earlier this year, and with Prime Minister Harini Amarasooriya scheduled to visit Beijing in October, Sri Lanka was excluded from this summit.

Still, the silence of the government on this sensitive matter only deepens the suspicion.

Sri Lanka Left Out?

Serious doubts have now surfaced over Sri Lanka’s exclusion from the new regional economic alliance unveiled at the Shanghai Summit. This is particularly striking given that, during the President’s recent visit to China, more than 70 agreements were signed and China had signaled strong support for Sri Lanka’s recovery plans. At the time, it was widely claimed that the President had laid the foundation for rebuilding the country through Chinese assistance.

But that optimistic picture soon collapsed. The government’s repeated delays in approving Chinese research vessels to enter Sri Lankan waters appear to have soured relations. As a result, many of the promised investments and concessions from China have not materialised, leaving the agreements little more than paperwork. Whether Sri Lanka’s non-invitation to the Shanghai Summit was retaliation for this setback remains unclear.

Adding to the controversy, informed sources suggest that China is aware of the concessions Sri Lanka has offered to the Trump administration in exchange for U.S. tariff relief, privileges and tax breaks that were never extended to China. Many believe this, too, contributed to Sri Lanka’s exclusion from the summit and possibly from the wider economic alliance now being built.

Meanwhile, India continues to wield its traditional influence over Sri Lanka and is itself preparing to take part in this emerging economic bloc alongside China. Russia has already aligned with the initiative, and Pakistan, once seen as a U.S. ally, has also submitted proposals to join.

Against this backdrop, Sri Lanka’s isolation—while its neighbors position themselves within a China-led economic alliance—casts a long shadow over the country’s political and economic future.

 A snap election ?

Our extraordinary revelation through the ‘Inside Politics’ column is about a special discussion that has arisen within the government regarding the call for a snap general election.

For several months now, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has been emphasizing from time to time that the government is scheduled to have to start paying off foreign debt in 2028, and that to pay off the debt in 2028, the economic growth rate, which is currently at 4%, must be increased to a level exceeding 5%.

However, in a context where the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank have revealed that the economic growth rate of Sri Lanka will further decrease in the future, Sajith has argued that there is a risk that Sri Lanka will once again become a bankrupt state that cannot pay its debts in 2028.

Consequently, Sajith says that the year 2028 is a very crucial year for Sri Lanka.

The International Monetary Fund, which had clearly understood the situation in Sri Lanka, had also proposed to start paying off foreign debt in 2033. However, Ranil, who was the president at the time, took steps to complete the restructuring of foreign debt, stating that he would pay off the debt from 2028 to show the country that he had achieved a great victory.

Ranil planned to go to the presidential election by portraying it as a great victory. When Sajith showed the same game that Ranil played, none of the so-called economic gurus in the SJB said a word about it.

At least, they did not dare to say that what Sajith said was true. Accordingly, when the government officials asked Sajith for evidence in this regard, Sajith publicly presented the relevant conditions of the agreement signed between the government and the IMF to Parliament.

It is not that the Malima government is unaware of this. Accordingly, it is reported that they have also made a very secret calculation on how to deal with the economic crisis in 2028 if the government has to face it again in the current economic climate.

Accordingly, after a very subtle, secret and meticulous political analysis conducted within the compass in the past period, it has come to the knowledge of the ‘Inside Politics’ column that they have also prepared a certain political plan by now. It is also said from the information received from the government that the JVP has been leading it.

Anura’s Trillion

The President did not say in Parliament last night that the government has already saved a trillion rupees. The government was able to collect such a huge amount because some ministries were not able to spend even 20% of the money allocated for certain projects in the last budget. It is reported that the government’s plan is to save the money and take great advantage of it by 2027.

With this information being reported, we also engaged in a special investigation into the government’s emergency general election plan and its route.

Accordingly, the information we received indicates that, according to this political schedule of the government, by the end of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027, the executive presidency, which was a major promise made by the government to the country, is planned to be abolished, and a new constitution is to be presented to Parliament.

The JVP has planned to re-establish the parliamentary system in the country. Accordingly, the government plans to abolish the executive and hold a general election in the latter half of 2027 under a new constitution.

The government has planned to present a popular budget that will provide relief to the people with more than a trillion rupees saved so far through the budget to be presented at the end of next year, and go for a general election.

If the Malaima government comes to power again after going to a general election, the government’s plan is to show the new mandate to the International Monetary Fund and extend the loan repayment period by a few more years.

If somehow the Compass government does not come to power and another government comes to power, the new government will have to face the issue of starting to pay off foreign debt in 2028 and if the country again becomes bankrupt.

Our investigation indicates this is the secret plan that the government has prepared to face the year 2028.

Will Ranil break  Pohottuwa again?

Under Namal’s leadership, the Pohottuwa, which fell to 3% in the last general election, was able to increase its vote share to 10% by the end of the local government election. This is why, at the last UNP Working Committee meeting, party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe made a proposal that the UNP should form an alliance with the Pohottuwa. We reported this a few weeks ago through the State Secrets, saying that Ranil did not say this in good faith, but because the heads of the Pohottuwa who were close to him, such as Kanchana Wijesekera, Shehan Semasinghe, and Rohitha Abeygunawardena, had begun discussions to join the Pohottuwa again. The reason for this is that Ranil knew that if they joined, his leadership would deteriorate further. However, we also reported that a group including Thalatha and Naveen strongly opposed Ranil’s proposal.

However, while Ranil was in prison, Namal had also attended a meeting organized by an opposition group at a Colombo hotel. Through this, Namal’s popularity within the party, which he had maintained until now, had also declined to some extent.

Meanwhile, Ranil has once again created a conflict of opinion within the Pohottuwa in anticipation of the UNP convention. Ruwan’s newspapers, which are friendly to Ranil, had reported that Ranil would also invite opposition parties to the UNP convention. Commenting on this, Namal also said that if such an invitation was received, the Pohottuwa would participate. However, the Pohottuwa’s General Secretary, Sagara Kariyawasam, expressed a slightly different opinion and said that the UNP and the Pohottuwa are two parties.

Basil’s emergence

Meanwhile, last week, it was suddenly seen that Professor Ranjith Bandara, a former strongman of the Pohottuwa, had posted a letter on his Facebook page criticizing Namal for being involved in the operation to rescue Ranil. As we all know, Ranjith Bandara is a close associate of Basil Rajapaksa, the mastermind of the Pohottuwa. Many people say that this is not the voice of Ranjith Bandara, but the voice of Basil. Accordingly, Ranjith Bandara had posted the following note on his Facebook page.

‘That three-night, four-day operation is over’ A little reminder about protecting the future of the LKAF’

Professor Ranjith Bandara, Professor Emeritus of the University of Colombo

I thought that the period from the moment former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was arrested last Friday until the 26th when he was granted bail should be introduced as the ‘three-night, four-day operation’. It showed so many operational characteristics. But now it is over. We must no longer be distracted. We must turn to our own path. In my understanding, this moment for us as buddhists is a time of reflection, honesty and unity.

Ranil’s role

Ranil Wickremesinghe, as far as we know, has never shared the vision or values of our party. He has certainly destroyed and distorted our political identity. He has damaged the Rajapaksa legacy entrusted to us by the people. He has decisively destroyed the political future of the Rajapaksas.

We believe that those who see him as a ‘saviour’ have failed to read him correctly. His political history shows only one truth. In his politics, he serves only himself. Not the party. Not the people. Not the nation. He is always good at fishing in the swamp.

We must not forget. The crises he claims to solve are the same ones that were created under his supervision during the era of good governance.

While we sympathize with him personally, we cannot ignore the damage he has done to our party.

The danger of division

Ranil is only strong when we are divided. When the powerful and prominent members individually flock to his fold, our collective power is bound to weaken. We experienced it. We are still experiencing it today.

The ‘Three Nights and Four Days Operation’ reminds us that our very identity is at stake. If we repeat the same mistake, the SLFP will once again become a tool for its own survival.

Lessons to be learned from the past

When we were campaigning in the Kandy district, our party founder Basil Rajapaksa gave me some great advice.

‘Don’t expect instant victories. What matters in politics is time and patience.’

That wisdom still rings true today. We cannot be someone else. We must build on our founding values. We must be loyal to our own cause. We must remain true to our own cause.

Call for unity

This is the moment for SLFP leaders, organizers, and supporters to focus their attention. Don’t sell our campaign to Ranil again. Let him bear the brunt of his failures. We have no journey with him.

Our duty is to protect the integrity of the SLFP. Unity, discipline, and commitment to the founding vision are our strengths.

Moving forward together

We must pledge to protect the strength, stability, and national values that the people entrusted to the SLFP. That pledge cannot be fulfilled through opportunistic alliances. Our path is clear. We have the energy and the power. We must acquire the ability to stand against those external maneuvers.

The future of the SLFP. The future of Sri Lanka. It depends on the same path. We have to move forward while preserving our identity, not by joining alliances in panic.

Thank you

Ban on Vijay?

A few weeks ago, Thalapathy Vijay, who is considered the superstar of Tamil Nadu cinema, made a controversial statement regarding the Katchatheevu island in Sri Lanka. In it, he said that the Katchatheevu island, which was handed over to Sri Lanka by Indira Gandhi in 1976, should be returned to India.

A few weeks after Vijay made this statement, the President suddenly visited Katchatheevu island during his Jaffna visit. There, the President said that he would not hand over Sri Lankan territory to anyone under any circumstances. Many people believed that the President had given a message to Thalapathy Vijay, Tamil Nadu and India through this.

The President made this statement when the case filed in the Indian court regarding the Katchatheevu island was about to be reopened. The case is scheduled to begin on the 15th.

Also, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that handing over the Katchatheevu island to Sri Lanka was a historic mistake by the Congress government, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also left a special X message stating that the Congress government had deliberately abandoned the Katchatheevu island.

Accordingly, if the Indian court somehow gives a favourable verdict in the ongoing case regarding the Katchatheevu island, it is needless to say that it will lead to a crisis between India and Sri Lanka, along with the statement made by the President.

Also, Thalapathy Vijay had recently come to Sri Lanka to shoot his latest film. The name of the film is ‘Jananayagam Yanna’. Already, there is a rumour going around in the North that the government is preparing to ban the screening of Thalapathy Vijay’s film in the North.

Since this rumour is getting viral in the North, even the President’s Media Unit has made a statement saying that the government is not in such a position. However, through the President’s visit to Kachchativu and this statement made in Jaffna, it is now possible to see a certain conflict emerging with India.
