Election monitoring organizations say that 7,000 independent observers will be deployed to monitor the Local Government Election.
Executive director of election monitoring body People’s Action for Free & Fair Elections (PAFFREL) Rohana Hettiarachchi said steps will be taken to increase the number of election observers deployed at district level, from next week.
He said a majority of the observers will be deployed on election day.
Hettiarachchi added, however, that the observers will also cover the period leading up to the election and the post-election period.
