President Ranil Wickremesinghe called an all-party conference on the 14th to find a common agreement to find solutions to the ethnic problem through national reconciliation, and a meeting was held last night between the President and Tamil party representatives to further discuss the way forward.
Following that discussion, Mr. M Sumanthiran, a Tamil National Alliance Member of Parliament, stated,
“With the President, there was the Prime Minister, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Attorney General, Mr. Sampanhan and I joined the discussion. Mr. Douglas Devanandu also joined the meeting. The release of political prisoners was discussed; approximately 5 people identified from there may already be released. He stated that the Attorney General would provide guidance on how to proceed. He stated that he has discussed land release with the army and that a recommendation will be made to the National Security Council on January 3rd. Following that, it was decided that we should also discuss the other lands. We will meet again on January 5th to discuss future work.
Question : Is it a successful discussion?
“The talks are successful, but nothing has happened yet.” It will be seen whether it is successful or not when they are fulfilled. “But there were no problems in the discussion.”
