311,805 Livestock Lost in Kurunegala Due to Cyclone Ditva

A total of 311,805 livestock in the Kurunegala District have died as a result of Cyclone Ditva, and an estimated Rs. 338 million is required for compensation, according to R. Wijesinghe, Deputy Director of the Kurunegala District Animal Production and Health Department.

Providing a detailed breakdown of the losses, the Deputy Director stated that the deaths include 1,881 cattle, 771 pigs, 508 goats, 250,459 laying hens, 54,072 broiler chickens, and 4,114 domestic chickens. He further emphasized that compensation amounting to Rs. 338 million must be paid to cover the damage caused by the cyclone.

These details were disclosed at the District Agriculture Committee meeting, which was held under the patronage of Kurunegala District Secretary Chandana Dissanayake. The meeting took place at the Kurunegala District Secretariat meeting hall on the 23rd.
