The investigation conducted by the hospital has confirmed that the death of Budhika Harshani Dharmawickrama was not the fault of Hemas Hospital.

The management and staff of HEMAS Group of Hospitals express their deep sorrow over the untimely death of Mrs. Buddhika Harshani Dharmawickrama and the heartache caused to her family members and loved ones.

In a background where various reports have been published regarding alleged omissions and errors in the treatment of Mrs. Buddhika Harshani Dharmavikrama, the Clinical Control Board of the Hemas Group of Hospitals undertook to conduct an immediate investigation in this regard.

It was revealed that the cause of death, which occurred 22 days after the patient was transferred to the Colombo North Teaching Hospital on the doctor’s request, was not a clinical error or omission at the Wattala Hemas Hospital.

Until the results of the investigation initiated by the Ministry of Health in this regard, the Hemas Hospital Group has decided not to seek the services of the surgeon attached to the North Colombo Teaching Hospital.

As a healthcare provider always committed to providing the best service to patients, Hemas Group of Hospitals is ready to fully cooperate with all investigations conducted by the health authorities regarding this incident.

The detailed report of the investigation conducted by the Clinical Control Board of Hemas Hospital regarding the incident will be given to the health authorities who will conduct further investigations into the matter.
