The government has announced that the official celebration of World Indigenous Peoples Day 2025 will be held at the Dambana Indigenous Village, under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
World Indigenous Peoples Day is observed globally on August 9 each year to recognize and honor the rights, culture, and contributions of indigenous communities.
A special discussion regarding the organizational arrangements for the upcoming celebration was recently held at the Mahiyangana Divisional Secretariat Auditorium. The meeting was attended by Indigenous Leader Uruwarige Vannilatthan, who represents the Vedda community.
Also present at the discussion were Minister of Plantations and Community Infrastructure Samantha Vidyarathna, Badulla District Parliamentarian Sudath Balagalla, and Badulla District Secretary Prabath Abeywardena.
