2024 Appropriation Bill passed by majority vote I Sri Lanka Latest News

2024 Appropriation Bill was passed in Parliament by a majority of 41 votes with amendments.

The third reading of the Appropriation Bill marks the final stage of the budget process, and during the vote, 122 MPs voted in favour, while 81 MPs voted against it.

MPs Diana Gamage, Sujith Sanjaya Perera, and Rohana Bandara who have been suspended from parliament, were allowed to exercise their vote for the budget.

Roshan Ranasinghe who was recently stripped of his ministry, voted against the budget.

MP Duminda Dissanayake who represents the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, voted in favor of the budget.

In addition, opposition MPs A. H. M. Fowzie, Vadivel Suresh and Anura Priyadarshana Yapa voted in favour of the budget.

SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa was NOT present in parliament during the budget vote.

On the 13th of November, President Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Finance Minister, presented the 2024 Budget Speech in Parliament.

It was debated in the house for a month, and following the vote on the third reading, the entire budget process came to a close.
