Amid growing local and international attention on the historic “Walk for Peace” scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka, it has been officially confirmed that the beloved dog “Aloka” will also take part in the event.
A special feature of this journey is that Aloka will not travel in the aircraft’s cargo hold like an ordinary dog, but will instead be allowed to travel inside the passenger cabin. This privilege has been granted because Aloka is a certified service dog. A special seat has even been reserved next to the Venerable Pannakara Thero, who is leading the group of monks accompanying the journey.

Scholars point out that this event marks a new dimension in the relationship between humans and dogs. In addition, public perception of Aloka is quite unique.
Many people, recalling the “Kukkura Jataka” story from the 550 Jataka tales, regard Aloka with deep respect, believing the dog to be a Bodhisattva (a being striving for Buddhahood).

It is expected that Aloka’s participation will bring about a positive shift in public attitudes toward all animals, especially stray dogs in the country. This remarkable participation, rooted in compassion for animals and human connection, will undoubtedly add new meaning and international attention to the Walk for Peace being held in Sri Lanka.
Aloka is already enthusiastically preparing to take part in this mission of spreading a message of peace.
