The Bribery Commission has filed an indictment against Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody at the Colombo High Court, alleging that he caused a loss of Rs. 88.85 lakh to the government while serving as the Procurement Manager of the Lanka Fertilizer Company in 2016.
According to the Commission, Kumara Jayakody has been charged with committing the offence of “corruption” under Section 70 of the Bribery or Corruption Act by conducting procurement activities in a manner that benefited a private company.
The charges have been filed on the grounds that the procurement process related to carpeting the fertilizer company’s warehouse premises was carried out in a way that favored a private company.
As a result of this action, it is alleged that the government incurred a financial loss of Rs. 8,859,708.
